Heads up!: pay attention!; watch out! (presta atenção!; cuidado!; “fica esperto!”)

“Heads up! There’s a truck coming through,” Howard warned Jake.
“Cuidado! Tem um caminhão atravessando”, Howard alertou o Jake.

“Heads up! The boss is coming our way,” said Bill to a coworker
“Fica esperto! O chefe está vindo para cá”, disse Bill para um colega de trabalho.

 

Give someone a heads-up: warn someone of something (avisar alguém de algo; alertar alguém a respeito de algo)

“I just wanted to give you a heads-up that Mike might show up later today,” said Jill.
“Eu só queria te avisar que o Mike talvez apareça por aqui mais tarde”, disse Jill.

They gave us a heads-up that Mr. Hampton might give up signing the contract.
Eles nos alertaram de que o sr. Hampton poderia desistir de assinar o contrato.
